Mijas Accommodation

You'll find a few hotels in and around Mijas but the vast majority of accommodation in this area is provided within the self-catering villas clustered on the hillsides surrounding the pueblo.

Most of the villas have a private swimming pool or access to a communal pool. Standards ranges from fairly basic homes but with clean and comfortable facilities to top of the range villas offering every kind of luxury.

Some villas are suitable for year-round holidays, being equipped with central heating and heated pools. For golfing enthusiasts, a villa or apartment alongside one of the local courses makes an ideal holiday and if you're travelling in a group it can work out cheaper than a hotel. You normally pay a set price for self-catering accommodation rather than paying per person.

There are numerous local agents handling the letting and management of these villas. Before you make a booking check the following points:

  • Does the agent provide full support if problems arise? (like a non-flushing toilet!)
  • Will linen and towels be provided?
  • Are water, electricity and gas included in the price?
  • Does the villa have ceiling fans or air conditioning for summer lets and heating for the winter?
  • Spain Beach
  • Spain Beach
  • Spain Beach

The five-star La Cala Golf Resort at Mijas Costa offers golf and tennis on site, a fitness centre, sauna, hot tub and well-equipped rooms with mini bar and satellite TV.

On the outskirts of Mijas pueblo on the road to Fuengirola you'll find the modern four-star Club Puerta del Sol. Set in a peaceful location with beautiful surroundings, this hotel also has a good range of facilities and services including indoor and outdoor pools, a pool bar, tennis, a gym, sauna, mini golf and live music each night.

For a cheaper holiday, try one of the hostals which you'll find both in and around the pueblo and down at Mijas Costa. You won't get saunas and heated pools but generally speaking hostals represent excellent value for money and most have en suite facilities and good home-cooked local food.

At Urbanizacion El Chaparral there are two one-star hostals, Casa Aloha and Hostal Carmen. Down at the coast of La Cala you'll find two more hostals with a one-star rating - Veramar and Yolanda.

There are plenty of other hostals and "pensiones" which don't have a star rating but which still provide clean and comfortable accommodation.

For younger travellers there are two youth hostels - the Albergue Municipal Etrerrios in Mijas and Albergue La Cala de Mijas at Mijas Costa.

Down near the beach there are two campsites - Calazul at La Cala and Los Jarales at Calahonda, both situated alongside the N340 national coast road.
